Near Beulah

Mark Peterson:
"From HWY 78 and 3 R RD (may be listed as Three R RD on some maps)
we drove 6.8 miles (on my odometer) to the spot. 3 R is approximately
18.7 miles from the intersection of Pueblo Blvd and HWY 78. So it is
about two miles east of Beulah.

Just follow the above directions but in case you lose track of your
mileage for whatever reason. Here are a few more details:
The road primarily runs south, then it will turn to the east and
it is a fairly long straightaway. This is the stretch of road
where the bird is. There is a big ditch going off to the south
that has a big medal gate in it. The bird stayed on the south
side of the road 99% of the time. Sometimes it would disappear
into the foliage but sat on top of the junipers and gamble oak a lot.
It called off and on."

Coen Dexter:
"Late yesterday afternoon I again checked for the
Lesser Nighthawks. I did not see any among the large
flock of Common Nighthawks at the sewer lagoons.
Calamity Draw starts east of Nucla about two miles,
runs just south of town and flows into the San Miguel
River at the bridge at the west end of the Nucla
Cutoff Road. This creek has a permanent flow and
substantial wetlands along its course. Starting about
6:00 each evening nighthawks begin coming out the feed
along this water course. There are a few hundred
total nighthawks. Nighthawks become more concentrated
at the sewer lagoons but can be seen everywhere. That
makes it problematic in attempting to refind the
Lesser Nighthawks." DeLorme 65:B4

Nunn Woods

Gary Lefko:
"Site 1 - Hwy 85N/WCR 108. Turn west, park car. Look/listen for birds
on both sides of road. Majority of the trees are on south but birds
fly back and forth. Best time AM. The owners allows Nunn CBC to bird
the entire property during CBC, both sides of Hwy 85. The SE corner
riparian area extends one mile across the mile section of property and
is a great site during the CBC, Scott Rashid and I bird it each winter
and always find goodies. I'm trying to gain regular access from owner
because I know there are some great birds in waiting for us. Late
spring last year I got some good warblers on the SW corner from road.

Site 2 - From Hwy 85/WCR 100 proceed east of RR make first left (about
20 feet from tracks). Proceed to just past the first driveway. Park
car, walk along road, viewing east, to next farmhouse (unoccupied).
Best time AM.

Also, trying to gain access to the Owl Creek drainage (think it is
CPER property), another mile long riparian area starting at WCR 122
about 2.0 miles west of WCR 37. I know Mark the CPER Manager so I am
hoping CPER owns the property -- I know they bird it on Nunn CBC."
